DJP: 3 Preliminary Concepts

Concept 1 | Senses visualisation
• Limitations on the medium that we can’t avoid.
• Contents on the screen are not able to provide all of information they want such as smell and taste.
• How can we gain the effective consequence from that limitative medium?
• Visualisation techniques are important because they help make things become clearer.
Outcome
It is quite impossible that the monitor will come up with smell or taste. Thus, we will use the mixture of shape, colour and tone to indicate the smell or taste of the objects.

Concept 2 | Marketing/Ad campaign
• Some marketing or ad campaigns do not meet with success because of inappropriate planning.
• Planning is all related to the five senses of the target audience.
• Every media that has been used in campaign consists of the five senses.
Outcome
Marketing/Ad campaign for the product or service will be produced for this concept. As we collected and analysed information about senses and perception, we can adapt them for developing more efficient campaign. The outcome may vary in any media such as printing media, booth and stall, TVC, or radio spot.

Concept 3 | Design/Developing symbol or logo
• Everything can be identified as symbol or sign.
• Those signs are involved with us in everyday life, as it is a part of our routine such as safety signs, brand logos, and web pages.
• Those signs are communicating to us. It sometimes needs to be informed clearly such as safety signs.
Outcome
The most important thing of symbol or logo design is considering perception of shape and colour. Therefore, we should concentrate on choosing shape and colour, as it is all have its meanings. What we would do is developing symbol or logo in the most effective way by using the knowledge of colour, shape and perception analyzing from the probe kits as well.

DJP: Significance

Communication in these days needs to communicate through the human senses. And everyone perceives those messages in different way because of different background and experiences. Therefore, the effective communication has to direct the audience to think and believe clearly in the same way. Communication will fully success if we can create an experience to impact directly to the audience.

From our research, we found some communication issues that only one sense is not able to communicate the messages completely as well as the audience cannot understand through the messages in the same way. For examples, Coke Zero and Coke, some people think that they have the same taste but some people do not. This obviously shows that the communication in this case is not successful enough as the audience understands the message differently. Another example is print media such as print advertising; the messages are communicated just through sight. In consequence, the messages sometimes cannot deliver to the audience efficiently.

The best solution to solve the problem follow the research is to make the message clear by adding some components to deliver the feeling of other senses that the audience cannot gain it from those media. For example, we try to use the mixture of shape and color to let the audience consider that shape or color helps them understand the messages clearer. And those elements could provide the feelings of the other senses such as smell and taste to them as well.

DJP: Aim and Design objectives

The aim of this project is to investigate the communication problems. Our challenge is to prepare a breadth of research methods through appropriate research methods that are empathetic user.

We are looking are going to analyze and focus surrounding the usability of 5 senses and our primary gold is resolve the problem of communication like the issue of decoding and encoding including misunderstood between sender and receiver.

The result will provide insight into the issue of senses and create a result that will address user can get experience via using there senses. Finally, our result will design a working concept or prototype fro the users have a clear understand in our result.

DJP: Abstract

Studies have shown that there are too many communication problems at the present time. Even Sender or Receiver both can cause the problems. Perception of information is the most significant thing we need to concern about, everyone can normally get any information via his or her 5-senses. So, we need to know how human senses work together called Synaesthesia and also which sense is the most influence sense that effect people. However, degree of Synaesthesia might be different depends on each user.

Our investigation started by research from various source about 5-senses, and we tried to collect as much information as possible. We tried to come up the result that make any users can get the same idea via their sensibility through literature reviews. Then, we had done cultural probe and some observation to support our ideas. We aim to inform and educate that what are the factors to make any sender and receiver think about the same thing, believe in same thing and also catch the same solution from the same source.
