Analysis:From the probe kit

From the probe kit we had 2 user, women(user1 vor) and men(user2 note), do the 5 tickers.

Ticker 1

We consider at the user life activity by used camera as the equipment. The result shows as User 1, women, she like to took a photo by highlight in the area of nice or beautiful thing. Also all most her photos had her face appeared on frame. Moreover, some photos that she took look like she focused on the logo or brand of object.

On the other, user2 (men), by the reason that he is the graphic designer his photo would be totally difference from user1, women. Most of his photos not capture his face as user1 but he captured his hand or his activity. However, user1 and 2 they have a same thing which most of photo focus at on the logo of each product.

Ticker 2

we come up for testing user in the area of color’ feeling.

Red color: both of user felt in the same way that hot taste as spicy in any case this result as the article that we founded in Literature review.

Orange: All users felt like freshly especially user 2 he also thinking about orange a kind of fruit.

Pink: All uses represent pink color like “love”, but user 2 also think about CMYK might be he is a designer.

Green: A bit different in the felling user1 felt as relax. On the other hand, user 2 felt as safety.

Yellow: User 1 and 2 felt in the same way that sunshine. Anyway, user 2 also thinking about LEMON might be because of Lemon must have this color.

Blue: Totally difference, user 1 felt as unity but user 2 felt like temporary.

White: They think in the same way that Vacant or clean.

Black: a few similar, they think like scare or sick. Especial user 2 felt as modern style.

Ticker 3

Sound1: A bit difference user1 felt scare but user like flight with something

Sound2: they felt like stay around nature might be the sound like nature it take the audience relax and thinking with forest.

Sound3: they think in the same way that relaxes in the jungle.

Sound4: The felt of users are totally difference might be the sound is not clear user1 felt as raining but on the other hand user2 felt he on the beach.

Sound5: The sound not too much fast that made users like movement and felt amuse.

Sound6: they think as it like transport difference on user 1 felt like train user2 felt like car.

Sound7: same in raining sound perhaps this sound very clear too understood.

Ticker 4
Picture1: Between text and detail there users believe in first impression like they believe in overall of object.
Picture2: Between smell and sight users think not the same way user1 women they believe in picture like behavior of woman. On the other hand, user 2 men he believes in smell.
Picture3: they decided this picture is orange by the reason that they get used in this shape.
Picture4: Users thinking in the same way that LEMON also by the reason that they get used too.
Picture5: User1 felt sweet might be she gets that felling from ants. On the other hand, user2 he don’t care about picture but he focused all of element.

Ticker 5
Box 1: they think am they decided the felling when they touching.
Box 2: orange on the top of the box me pate text “LEMON” user1 got correct answer because he using 2 senses to decide, smell and touching. But user1 decide by the shape.

Conclusion: Sense of Touch

Touch is one of the five senses, which is located all over the body. Touch makes a response to temperature and pressure. Heat, cold, and touch stimuli are received by end organs or sensory receptors on the skin. Touch is considered more than a single sense. The human brain consists of receptors that will receive the feelings when we touch something. There the feeling of cold, hot, or pain is registered. An object’s size and shape can be judged by using this sense based on visual.

Vision and touch can both provide information about an object’s shape and size. Some people say that touch is an independent sense. According to Hannah B.Helbig and Marc O.Ernst, they state that touch and vision is integrated into a unified perception “Bimodal shape estimates are more reliable than rely on either vision or touch alone.” (Hannah B.Helbig & Marc O.Ernst 2007, pg.604). An obvious example is blind people; they are not able to identify some objects when they just touch them. Therefore, we could assume that touch and vision is incorporated perception.

As touch related with vision, we sometimes can describe things when we touch but it is not able to tell us the details about colour that comes up with vision. In this case, we assume that vision consists of shape and colour. If so, a question that will comes after this is “Which sense is more important as a primary perception between touch and vision?” The assumption for the answer is “vision”. Before we explain for the answer, there is also a question in perception aspect, “What will happen if we lost touch?” and “What will happen if we lost vision?” If we lost touch, we are still able to see what the object, shape, or colour is. On the other hand, if we lost sight, we might not able to indicate the shape, colour, and any details of the object. Thus, we suppose vision is more important than touch.

For example, if we touch a lemon without seeing it. We might assume that it is an orange, whereas everything is clear when we just have a look at it.

Even though the assumption of sense tells us that perception is divided into separate domains of vision, hearing, touch, taste, and smell. Besides that, some might think that touch and vision is working separately. In fact, touch can’t be separated from vision as it always operates together. “It has been shown recently that human observers integrate visual and haptic size information in a statistically optimal fashion, in the sense that the integrated estimate is most reliable.” (Ernst and Banks cited in Helbig, Hannah B & Ernst, Marc O 2002, pg.415) This shows that when those two senses are operated together, they assure us the most reliable information we perceive.

Conclusion: Sense of smell

Smell is part of human sensing system to detect odors in the environment, every human are able to distinguish over 10,000 different odor molecules. Smell is also the ability to detect food odors released in our mouths when we eat. Smell is a very direct sense, in order for you to smell something molecules from that thing have to make it to your nose and our brain processes the resulting information that gives rise to the sensation of smell. There are suggestions that smell can influence mood, memory, emotions, mate choice, the immune system and the endocrine system (hormones). We can communicate by smell - without knowing it. People react to the smell differently some react directly to the smell like the smell from flower or the environment around them, whether it is bread in the bakery, onions, perfume, a piece of fruit or whatever, but some was attract by the look of those product before they can be introduce to those smell such as perfume or food.

Color also can be related to sense of smell as well, such as when we think about pink color we can imagine smell of flower (Rose) or something sweet follow the color. Or orange color we will imagine smell of fruit (Orange). Therefore, color can be another thing that show people in each sense as well.

In the processes of sensing, only just smell cannot communicate directly on the products, all sense smell, taste, sight, touch and hearing need to be working together but sometime it is not necessary for all the sense to work together but still need at least two or three sense to work together such as smell and taste for example coffee if just only smell the smell sense would be able to tell what it taste like weather it bitter, sweet or bland. Moreover, sense of smell can work with sense of sight for example, if we smell of smoke we can imagine something burning.

For instance, to promote a snack it needs at least smells, sight and tastes to promote the product. Such as selling a chicken flavor snack the customer wouldn’t be able to tell weather it taste sweet, salty, spicy or bland until they actually taste and smell it. Then look further to the package on the package will show the particular flavor such as picture of chicken. Or to promote a perfume it needs smell and sight to promote. Most customer will be provide the smell of the particular brand to advertise their perfume by the seller then they would look further to the brand and the look of it.

However, each sense is significant for human to communicate. People use their sense to live and communicate in their lifestyle. There are smells of everything around them, sight of everything that they can see and imagine, hearing every sound that they hear, taste everything that they eat and touch everything that they catch or hold. So, five senses of human are all around our life and our world.

Conclusion (Lit Review) : Taste

Lit Review: Taste

If we are talking about human sense, as we know, Taste is the ability to respond to dissolved molecules and ions called tastants. Humans detect taste by clustered in taste bud. Human’s tongue has a pore that opens out to the surface enabling molecules and ions reach the receptor cells inside. Actually, there are five primary taste sensations, which are Salty, Sour, Sweet, Bitter and Umami

As we know, when we are talking about taste we have to think of Smell too. This is because Smell and Taste always come together. Smell and taste belong to our chemical sensing system start from nerve cells in the nose, mouth and throat. Then, these cells transmit messages connect directly to the brain, where specific smells or tastes are identified.

However, only taste could not make us deeply know in everything such as if we are closing our eyes and nose, then taste some weird material, which we never have recognized it before, we might classify it that it probably be water, food or something else but we couldn’t accurately identify what it is. So, we have to use other human senses can help the brain to solve it. From research, color (sense of sight) is one thing that much influence to people understanding. Because each color has meaning itself such as Red is the color of fire and blood, Blue is the color of the sky and sea and it is often associated with depth and stability and white is associated with light, goodness, innocence, purity, and virginity, etc. As we know, we also use color in almost every advertisement of food or drink. For example, if we want to promote energy drinks and we give it to testers to taste it with the light blue package, they can realize that it is water but they might not sure about the kind or that drink. So, if we use the dark red package instead that can help their brain to make decision easily or correctly because the red color also present about energy much better than light blue. Though we also have to think about suitable smell too.

On the other hand, the sense of taste does not exactly refer to only taste, in some case, a cross over from one pathway to the other might be occurred such as seeing the color yellow-green may remind sourness, pink may suggest sweetness called Synaesthesia. Moreover, feeling of people with a strong sense of Synaesthesia is very different from a normal people. For example, a food might be heard or sound might be felt.

Therefore, if we would like to communicate people via the taste and get back the correct result we have to consider it carefully such as identity of taste, package including color. Nevertheless, there is the big problem about taste called Taste Disorders, which means Loss of Taste. Some people are born with taste disorder even infections, injury or illness also cause taste problems and taste disorder might result from health problems too. Anyway, some case of Test disorder probably be treated but some case cannot be treated.
